Let me start by saying I'm a firm believer in the ability to make anything with visqueen, duct tape, and hot glue. Seriously, think about it, when in need, with those 3 things you can fix pretty much anything.
That said, this weekends project (still not finished to share) has forced my hot glue gun into retirement. I know, it's a very sad day but I'm trying to look on the positive side and think about it as a much needed upgrade.
During college I had this amazing cordless hot glue gun but somewhere in the 7 plus moves since then it disappeared. It was blue and orange but I can't remember the brand. I did a quick google image search to find one similar and get the brand. Well done google, I got way more than I was looking for and I'm now way off the topic of looking for that specific brand.
Apparently the bar has been raised in the last 10+ years since I bought a hot glue gun. Companies like RYOBI and Black & Decker are now making hot glue guns!!!!! People why did you not notify me of this earlier?! This has got to be one the greatest applications of engineering girl world EVER! How is it that I pick out tooling needed for manufacturing process and not one of these vendors brought a cordless hot glue gun as an "oh by the way we also have this" sort of way?!? Salesmen, when you talk to a female manufacturing engineer cordless hot glue guns would be useful information to share and have to demo even if it can't be used directly in that factory. Communication is key here; I can't emphasize that enough.
Most importantly, I don't know what cordless hot glue gun (any brand) is best. Here is my criteria.
- Cordless! I'm so over that stupid cord getting in the way.
- Doesn't cost a small fortune.
- As hubs so lovingly says that things need to be "Amanda Proof." If there is a way to break it I will, it must be durable enough to last me another 10 years.
- Must work with universal glue sticks (I don't want to be forced to use a specific brand or size if I can find it cheaper I want to use it).
- Definitely want one compatible with both high and low temperatures so it works with multiple application needs.
- As long as it heats up in under 5 minutes I'm good, I don't need instant gratification quicker.
- Small and light. I don't want anything super big that will take up a lot of room to store. I don't want something heavy that will wear out my arms when I'm working.
- Trigger control. We need it to sit ergonomically correct for ease when in use because well it's my day job so I should practice what I preach. Plus the more trigger control you have the less chance there is of a giant glue blob mess.
- In my search I saw that they now have adjustable nozzles to better control the flow. That would be cool but unless someone tells me this is a complete game changer, I don't think it's absolutely necessary.
- Amazon Prime for free 2 day shipping would be swell.
AND GO!!!!!!! What cordless hot glue guns do you use? Reviews? Pros and cons? Suggestions to test out?
XOXO
