Girls Weekend Slumber Party

I finally hung up the new fall bows for the front door that we made during the 'hurricane' drama. I LOVE them so much! The front door definitely needs some sprucing up now!

This weekend Jackson and I had a slumber party visitor, my cousin, so I would actually sleep a bit. I bought a weighted blanket specifically for this trip while he would be gone and wouldn't you know the first night I was alone I noticed a hole! Little microbeads all over at 9:30 at night is so not ideal. Side note; I'm a huge baby and I've never really been able to sleep by myself. My poor sister grew up thinking it was normal for your older sister to always sleep in your room with you. I love when my cousin comes to visit because I have someone to craft and cook with. Truth be told, this weekends visit was slightly self motivated because I didn't want to be alone.

Saturday was filled with crafting some generic Christmas sacks and some garter toss footballs. I don't know what happened but I had multiple custom footballs on the agenda for this weekend which gladly got my creative juices going more than usual!

We attempted to do some sort of organizing with my overflowing craft mess. It's gotten slightly out of control. I really need a specific designated space because using whatever free space here and there isn't cutting it. Right now it's like a Hobby Lobby delivery truck broke down at my house and everything got moved inside out of the rain as fast as possible. Everything is beyond spread out between the shelf in the guest closet, the few cabinets in the garage, a couple cubbies in our dry bar, and lining the wall in what should be the dining room! It's even taken over my beloved breakfast booth!

As a starting point I got these ribbon organizer boxes from The Original ScrapBox so we filled one with elastic for hair ties and the other with traditional ribbons. I really like the boxes but it's just not completely perfect. It's good and definitely better but it's not the greatest. I'm an Industrial Engineer and hubs is a Manufacturing Engineer, our careers are to make people's lives better without them realizing it. Which means we are constantly figuring out better ways to organize and work with big things to manufacture products. I'm so used to modular customization exactly how I envision something functioning and it being able to grow and adapt as requirements change that this standard box just isn't going to cut it. Continuous Improvement is key here people. We are going to have to think on it and engineer a better solution. I know I have unrealistic expectations but it comes with the day job. Main problems with the current state: storing wide ribbons and storing items on large spools. Everything needs to be together and it's just really not ideal to have half the ribbons stored nicely in this box and the other half in a plastic bin in the garage. Brainstorm and send your ideas over!

After dinner with the family we snuggled down for a movie and William-Sonoma hot chocolate (once you try theirs you will never want any other kind). Jackson was very vocal about being left out so we relocated to a pallet on the floor.

The slumber party worked and I slept until 7:30am Sunday morning (super late for me)! Jackson has this special skill of being able to recognize the weakest link in the group, i.e. the most likely source for caving and giving him food. Despite our valiant attempts at getting Jackson to understand he will not starve, he scarfs down his food and is constantly looking for more.

Meme made my favorite, lasagna, for Sunday dinner so we passed on a big breakfast to ensure plenty of belly space for lunch. After waddling out of Sunday dinner we headed back home for a neighborhood pumpkin carving party. I haven't carved pumpkins in a few years and man was it fun!

We had such a good time sitting around laughing and making a mess. One of the dad's works in a similar industry to me so of course we busted out some intense tools and engineered the pumpkin carving situation. We even worked in a lesson for the kiddos defining the difference between a Phillips and flathead screwdriver making it quite the educational afternoon!

Before I knew it darkness was upon us and it was time to scrub away pumpkin sticky for another work week. Thanks to visqueen the clean up was super easy! (I maintain every house needs a roll of visqueen and duct tape on hand.)

I've got a bit of decorating the front door/porch on the agenda for this week before next weekends trick-or-treaters arrive! This awesome carved pumpkin is definitely the perfect start and inspiration to be a little more festive!
