Last weekend we were in the direct projected path of Hurricane Nate. Hubs got off work early to "prepare" for his first hurricane at home since he moved to the south. As I pulled into our neighborhood Friday afternoon I saw zero out of the ordinary and the neighbor across the street casually outside washing his car. Then I saw the back of our house. Hubs had been busy putting up the storm shutters prepping our house for what someone could only assume was a zombie apocalypse. He was just so proud of himself I didn't have the heart to tell him it wasn't supposed to bad enough for that. I put on some shorts and helped my favorite overachiever finish putting up the storm shutters. Yes we were the only crazy people in the neighborhood doing any sort of preparation, other than loading up the icechest with beer. Once we were sufficiently prepared for a zombie apocalypse we decided to go out to eat incase we were stuck inside for the rest of the weekend.
Saturday morning the Mr. went hunting at my parents (still waiting for the first kill this season). After a quick run to the post office and Walmart for some last crafting supplies we met up with my family for lunch. Then everyone split and went home to bunker down for the remainder of the weekend with Hurricane Nate.
By Saturday afternoon my crafting weekend indoors had completely exploded everywhere. I had so many projects going on I totally forgot to take enough pictures along the way to show you everything! Shame on me, I'll do better next time. Some of the hurricane weekend projects accomplished were, new fall bows for our front doors, pirate themed cupcake toppers for a special 2 year olds birthday party, hair ties and more hair ties, a new headband style and bracelet was learned, painted metal home decor signs, Santa sacks, garter toss footballs, as well as custom sweatshirts t-shirts and tank tops. Much to the Mr.'s annoyance there was glitter specs on every surface in our kitchen and living room by nightfall. Y'all glitter is one of those things that never really gets cleaned up. I swear glitter multiplies when you clean it!
Most importantly, there was lots and lots of snuggling and attention given to the fur baby while we were stuck inside. It spoiled him, if we did anything other than give him attention he very quickly corrected us.
The storm ended up being very mild in our area. We had a BBQ party with our neighbors and invited in nearby. We even had a hot chocolate tea-party using our fancy wedding china while laughing late into the night.
Sunday morning I was the first one awake. After making way too many pancakes we invited the neighbors over for a late breakfast.
Then we got to work outside taking down the storm shutters and moving the patio furniture back out of the garage. Finally our house was no longer safe in the event of a zombie apocalypse and looked like our home again. Sunday was so beautiful we stayed outside nearly all day fishing in the pond, feeding the ducks, and acting like kids on the playground.
It turned out to be a wonderful weekend at home!
XOXO
the Mr. & Amanda
