Hubs planned a very romantic weekend outing for us, we went to Houston for supercross! I know ladies, try to not be too jealous. Clearly this adventure was more for him than me but it turned out to be pretty fun.
I don't know what one is supposed to wear to supercross but I rocked some black leather looking Citizens and a random flannel oversized shirt I found in the closet. I figured the leather pants went with the Monster girl attire enough but I was going to be comfortable especially since we had a 4 hour drive to Houston at the crack of dawn.
We grabbed lunch at WingStop close to the stadium and then started our walk over to the Pit Party. This pit party thing was definitely planned by a bunch of non-engineer men. I mean that in the nicest way guys but really call me or ask your wife to help. I get that a supercross pit party is kind of a boy thing but the ladies can help, and an engineered plan would be a huge game changer. Want to know how Im 100% certain it wasn't planned by a woman? Easy, there's no way in hell a woman would plan an event with an entrance line longer than the stadium and then put just 2 sets of toilets both in the very back of everything! Really call WasteManagement, tell them if they want to be a headline sponsor they need to step up to the plate and get more toilets, maybe even splurge for those really nice one that are on a tractor trailer like LSU has for pregame tailgates with real sinks. How do I know it wasn't an engineered event? There wasn't a single map of the layout with a time schedule for who, what, when, and where. The lack of food/snacks and sitting relaxing points available was pathetic, it was practically non-existent (ONE booth to buy a coke). I would have been a whole lot more enjoyable with a nice bowl of jambalaya, a beer, and a place to sit. I'm not asking for much, every woman's shopping store has a nice comfy chair for you to sit and relax while she try's on clothes, return the favor by giving us a snack and a place to sit. Now, if you really want to go crazy and actually keep getting people's money for the full 6 hours, play some music! AMA Supercross, feel free to call me for more genius nuggets of wisdom.
So we roamed around the Pit Party and saw some guy from some circus thing filming. Nitro Circus maybe... I don't know, hubs was excited so I went along. We went and met as many of hubs favorite racers as possible. He got a little pouty and sad at some booths when they would pass out tickets to meet the riders and he would be the first one left without a ticket.
I desperately needed to sit and have a drink so I convinced him to walk to the closes bar, Island Sizzler, and watch the Eagles game. It was a Jamaican bar and grill with AMAZING drinks.
One of hubs friends from college called so we met their group of 4 to hang out and head into the stadium. We had great seats and it was a blast laughing with the whole group sitting together.
Post race we had special "work passes" to go back into the pit area. Out of the 3 guys in our group of 6 I'm pretty sure the 2 big ones enjoyed the post race events the most. Hubs and Jason used the kid as bait for plenty of special attention. They got to touch the actual bike used in the race and talked the very nice mechanic into giving Grayson Cooper Webb's front number plate since the rider was already gone for the night. We walked around talking to tons of different riders and mechanics who were all to my surprise extremely nice. As we were heading out the gate to leave hubs looked to his left and realized we were walking next to Malcolm Stewart and Weston Peick. It was a complete fan girl moment. He played it off well using Grayson as bait for handshakes and a picture with the kid. Honestly the whole factory team they were walking with was beyond nice with zero diva important celebrity additude. It was very refreshing.
We split from the group and took a romantic pedicab ride back to our hotel to call it a night.
We woke up this morning to see the picture of Grayson, Weston, and Malcolm posted on Instagram. Hubs has been grinning like a kid in the candy store since we got in the car to head home. It was a very nice little getaway activity. I'm now a fan of supercross, mainly because everyone was super down to earth making it a very enjoyable experience with riders, mechanics, team managers, and watching the race. Well done gentlemen. We shall be back to do this again, maybe you can let me help you improve the planning a bit so it's more enjoyable to the masses.
XOXO
