The Black Hole of Mackeeper

First off, if I like something a lot and use it regularly odds are it has a name because it is just way easier to say "babe I can't find Serena's keys" instead of "babe I can't find the keys to the car" and then we go through this tap dance of which car. My MacBook Pro is named Abby. I don't know why or where I came up with this name but her name is Abby. Abby is the best. I bought her the first week of graduate school and wow! If I had Abby technology and syncing capability with my phone and calendar during undergrad I would have done a whole lot better! (Yes I'm old and was in college when these ancient things like iPods and The Cloud were invented, so today's "simple" stuff like syncing is novel.) 

Anywho, back to today's topic of the Black Hole of Mackeeper.   

So for hubs birthday earlier this month we went alligator hunting and I've been trying to load the videos/pictures to Abby and share with you but she has been angry saying there wasn't enough available memory. After attempting to back up to timemachine failed I clicked the little popup suggesting me to allow Mackeeper to run a system scan. Well I clicked it because it couldn't make the situation any worse so it was worth a try. Y'all Abby is sick. Like 2,000+ errors sick! I got connected to this technician named Ryan who went above and beyond to help me! Seriously, if you run Mackeeper and don't get connected to Ryan just tell them you will wait for him. He's the bomb dot com. Maybe it is their training program so everyone is super helpful, I'm not certain, but side effects of the day job make me hopeful that they have rocking processes + documentation in place to ensure all technicians are up to Ryan's level (Industrial Engineer's daydream). Sidenote: Mackeeper if you don't, I'm happy to help you develop those processes and documentation.

The free version couldn't cure Abby so of course I had to pay for something not covered by the health insurance plan (story of adulting). After AmericanExpress did a fine job blocking the charge thinking it was fraud and we got the full version of Mackeeper paid for, Ryan got to work doing what he could and I popped open a bottle of wine because well it needed to be taste tasted and I'm happy to jump on that granade. Ryan's level of professionalism and assistance was off the charts at this point. Anyone that can remain helpful while talking to a wine tipsy person about a computer that is being referred to as a person named Abby is the kind of person I wish I had at work on every continuous improvement implementation team!

Dr. Ryan did everything he could for Abby, solving a little over 25% of her illnesses and then he brought in a specialist named Walter. I was told I could supervise or step away from Abby for 2-3 hours while Dr. Walter worked his magic. I choose the latter. I got a call 45ish minutes later on my cellphone from Walter. He explained the issue he encountered, options for the fix, asked how I wanted I wanted him to proceed, and then profusely apologized for the inconvience of his call. Since Walter wouldn't listen to me on the phone here it is again; you're fixing my laptop, doing a service I paid you to do, thank you for calling, explaining to me the issue and then fixing it! Am I the only person that thinks I would less inconvenienced by a laptop that can't do ANYTHING because the memory is full over a phone call from Walter fixing it?!? 

So it is now roughly 4 hours post clocking the Mackeeper 'run system scan' and I've had a very enjoyable evening with a new bottle of wine, playing fetch with the fur baby and working with Walter.  It was a much needed forced break from working on projects and planning for other people's stuff and break from technology. I even got a confidence booster when Walter told me multiple times how good I did following his instructions and helping him fix Abby!    Around hour 5 of their operation I passed out. This morning I saw that around hour 6 Walter encountered a problem that couldn't be fixed without my assistance. I had a ton of things to do after work today so I didn't get to resume fixing Abby until around 9:30pm. The fine gentlemen named Stephen verified my account and like magic knew within a minute where Walter stopped and what remained. 

I haven't had to go to a specific location, wait in line, or even remain in my work clothes and I'm now able to happily report that the team of surgeons behind the scenes of Mackeeper were able to fix Abby and have scheduled regular followups for wellness checkups to prevent her from getting so sick again! I'm beyond impressed with the level of knowledge, professionalism, and team communication going on with the Mackeeper crew. Most importantly, Abby works again! I highly recommend clicking the run system scan button if you have a Mac. If my opinion chances on this Mackeeper situation you will be the first to know.
